NOVICE (OBEDIENCE)

The Novice class is for students who have mastered the basic obedience exercises and are ready to build on those by learning how to work off-lead; perform sit and down stays for greater duration; perform exercises with increasing distractions in preparation for the novice level in obedience trials.

1. Heel on leash and Figure eight – 40 points
2. Stand for examination – 30 points
3. Heel Free – 40 points
4. Recall – 30 points
5. Long sit – 30 points
6. Long down – 30 points

Maximum total score is 200 points

Dogs must qualify with a score of 170 or better three times to receive the N title, which goes at the end of the registered name. ALL dogs, including mixed-breeds, are eligible to compete in AKC Obedience trials through AKC Canine Partners.

Beginner Novice or an equivalent level of training showing your dog can walk on a loose leash, sit and down stay; and solid recall.

Distemper Vaccine and Rabies Vaccine, and highly recommend Bordetella (upper respiratory vaccine).
